National Exhibition on Wildlife Photography held at Digboi.

On the occasion of National Wildlife Week Aaranyak,in collaboration with Assam Science Society, Digboi Branch, Irab-Kirab, Dibrugarh and Photographic Club of Assam, Dibrugarh celebrated a two day photo exhibition at Golden Jubilee Complex, Digboi on Oct 1 and 2, 2012.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Apurba Kr. Nath; Chief Manager, Administration, Welfare and CSR, IOCL, Digboi. He was joined by the other guests of Honour Mr. Anuj Dowarah a noted Artist, Writer, Photographer & Social Worker; Mr. Saurav Dowrah, member of International Photographic Council, of India; Mr. Nukul Khound, Co-ordinator of Irab-Kirab related to environment protection; Mr. Sailendra Mohan Das; Eastern Assam Co-ordinator, Aaranyak and Mr. Golap Kalita, Head, Deptt. of Chemistry, Digboi College, Digboi and also President of Digboi Science Society and other eminent guests, students from school and colleges.

Mr. Kamar Uddin Mazumdar, Secretary of Assam Science Society, Digboi Branch anchored the meeting. Mr. Sailendra Mohan Das, Co-ordinator, Eastern Assam delivered the purpose of the meeting and Mr. Golap Kalita, Head, Department of Chemistry, Digboi College, and President of Assam Science Society of Digboi Branch presided over the meeting. Mr. Apurba Kr. Nath was the chief guest of the programme urged the students and the general audience the need hour of wildlife preservation and on habitat conservation.

Noted writer and social activist Mr. Anuj Dowarah, also delivered a lecture on wildlife conservation by citing many examples about how general mass can come forward and work conservation of wildlife at their local level.

About 42 participants from all over the nation exhibited the Wildlife Photos of various critically endangered, endangered and endemic ones. A special photograph exhibition was also displayed that include Biodiversity of Dibru Saikhowa, Diversity of Manas, Biodiversity of Tinsukia Districts, Amphibians of Upper Assam, Snake Diversity of Digboi were a special site for attraction and these were contributed by Ms. Bornali Gogoi, Mr. Deborshree Gogoi, Mr. Tikendrajit Gogoi, Dr. Amarjyoti Saikia, Mr. Sanjay Das, Mr. Dilip Pangging, Mr. Porag Jyoti Phukan, Mr. Hrishikesh Gogoi, Dr. Lakhya Jyoti Nath, Mr.Mridu Paban Phukan, Mr. Rakesh Doley etc.

The second day of the exhibition on 2nd October 2012, resumed with remembrance to the Father of the Nation, on his 144th Birth Anniversary and attended by many school students of the district who had came for participation in the Prize money with running trophy in the General Science and Wildlife Quiz. Altogether 41 group of various school participated in the quiz in the preliminary round and in the final round there were six groups. The first prize was won by Chow Kanchang Buragohain & Krishna Agarwal, Sikhha Gurukul, Chota Hapjan, Rs. 3000 and a Running Seal; the second by Munindra Nath Hazarika & Twasis Ansari, Modern Academy, Rupai Saiding, Rs. 2000 and a Running Seal; and the third by Abhilash Patwari & Debanga Tamuli, DPS Digboi with Rs. 1000 and a Running Seal.

The quiz masters were Mr. Dipak Deb, former Principal of Digboi College, Digboi who conducted the general science quiz and Mr. Rajib Rudra Tariang, Asstt. Prof., Deptt. of Zoology, Digboi College conducted the wildlife quiz. Mr. K.N. Timsina, Vice-Principal of Digboi College, Dr. Jotindra Lohakar, Associate Prof., Deptt. of Mathematics, Digboi College & treasurer of the society and Mr. Jainal Abedin of Assam Science Society, Digboi Branch maintained the records of the quiz score and other records. Dr. V. Mathaur, IFS, Digboi also gave a valuable speech to the students and other eminent guest.
